Seriously, he walked the straight and narrow and laid off the bottle for most of the season.
At some point though, he must've gotten a call from that ex-wife of his, Mother Nature, during which she demanded more alimony and he just said screw it and hit the Wild Turkey.
That's really the only thing I can think of that explains this:
